Born and raised in Melbourne Australia Ruby Jones songwriting evokes images of a desolate American landscape merged with dreamlike narratives of heartbreak and redemption
Before embarking on her solo career she recorded and toured as a background vocalist for Clairy Browne & The Bangin Rackettes. It was in this group she met her songwriting partner lead guitarist, Jules Pascoe (Jazz Party, Husky, Jaala). After the group disbanded in 2015 Ruby and Jules began writing songs drawing sonic influence from Mazzy Star, Angel Olsen and Fleetwood Mac. In 2017 they were joined by Selwyn Cozens on drums and Joel Loukes on bass who added to their gloomy garage rock sound.
Alphington are an indie pop outfit with chamber music and electronic elements led by Alice Apfel Thomas and produced/masterminded by Jules Pascoe (Clairy Browne, Jazz Party, Jaala etc). Their songs weave together narratives of gender, sexuality and theology, with sonics drawing a line from 1950s Brill Building pop to 1980s Rough Trade and modern classical American minimalism.
